training day
We had to start somewhere. Roger and I took Fat Tuesday, a J92 based here in Bermuda, out for a little shake-down sail last Sunday. She is a few years older than Alchemist, without the tech, but we think she’s the perfect training platform. She’s around the same size with a good quiver of head sails.
We slipped off her mooring in Sauncy Bay in around 15-20 knots of breeze out of the SE. We spent our time practising some pretty basic skills, but one thing we both know is if you can’t master the basics, then layering on more complete manoeuvres will get even more challenging.
We traded off time on the helm, and each got a feel for the boat and how she likes to be trimmed. It was a great start for our campaign.
